Te Tiriti o Waitangi and equity in architecture

We’re pleased to announce this postponed webinar has a new confirmed date!

Do you want to understand the relevance and importance of Te Tiriti o Waitangi to the architectural profession?

About this Event

As a bicultural, multi-ethnic nation, the profession largely responsible for Aotearoa’s built environment should honour our founding agreement, Te Tiriti o Waitangi, and be reflective of the communities it serves. Yet the industry is still heavily Pākehā and male-dominated, particularly in leadership positions.

We’re extremely grateful to have Ngā Aho member Jade Kake (nō Ngāpuhi ki Whangārei, Te Whakatōhea, Te Arawa) and Ngā Aho Co-Chair Desna Whaanga-Schollum (nō Rongomaiwahine, Ngāti Kahungunu, Pāhauwera) present a webinar, expanding on the column they authored for Architecture Now’s Our Aotearoa series: Te Tiriti o Waitangi and equity in architecture

The pair will discuss key issues the profession faces, including the low representation of Māori and BIPOC, cultural considerations and kaupapa Māori approaches to practice, and the importance of Te Tiriti o Waitangi within firms and projects.

Register now to be a part of this extremely important conversation.
